Thumbies

Today in FACS my students made Thumbies. They used markers to ink-up their fingertips, then they created a picture in their packet. Once the pictures were created, students traded packets and wrote short stories about the thumbie picture. The packets were traded 2 more times and the stories were continued at each new person. Here is one of the stories that came to be:

There is a family that is traveling in a car on the highway. The family had to pack quickly and run. The family barely had time to get away. They only packed the essentials. The family was running away from...
the hurricane that was moving at 500 miles per hour. Although the sun was shining, the sky behind them was dark and black. The 2 year old boy turned around and said, "What is that big twirly thing doing?" A TORNADO!!...
OMG. We are all gonna die! Then came along Superman to save the day! Hah! He lifted the car up and flew to Forks to meet Edward and Bella. They lived happily ever after. The end. :-)

Imagination

In FACS we are doing a short Child Development unit. And today we did a short imagination activity. Students drew a picture of an imaginary creature in the packet. Then they partnered up with someone else in the class and verbally described their creature (without letting their partner see the original) to their partner to draw. It was so much fun to listen to them try to give directions to their partner. Some of the pictures turned out really close, and others... didn't. It was a great object lesson on how sometimes, kids hear something different than what parents say. Or rather, they hear what they want to hear. :-) It created a great discussion.

Color Coding

Today in Fashion students color coded themselves. It was fun to hear them all laughing and voicing their opinions on what colors looked best on their peers.

Another Clothing Project

This is a hoodie sweatshirt one of my clothing students made. She did a great job!

Foods Flip Books

This is the flip book cheat sheet I let my Foods class make. They couldn't use any letters or numbers, so they had to draw pictures of all the info if they wanted the cheat sheet. They were soooooo cool! The students that went to the effort of making the flip books did much better on the test. Great job guys!

A Clothing Project

Look at the cute bear one of my clothing students made! Doesn't it look like it's smiling! Great job!

Pancakes

Today the FACS students had their last lab- yea for me, bummer for them. :-) They made pancakes and homemade syrup. It is so fun to see some of the shapes the students make!

Strip Malls

Today in Fashion we learned about the different types of stores. To get away from the same boring, old power points, students made a strip mall to help teach the different store types. Here is a pic. We have a Dillards, a Ross, a Buckle, a Payless, and more!!

Burritos

Today my FACS classes had another lab. They made bean and cheese burritos with homemade tortillas. For once, my room doesn't smell that great. A couple of the labs burned their rice. Not a pretty smell. However the labs that didn't burn their food had a great time! One lab decided to make scones with some of their leftover tortilla dough. Very creative. Other groups made sugar and cinnamon rolls! What great students I have!!

Pizza... and the Foam Monster

Today the FACS classes made pizza! And it was soooooo yummy!! My room smells so good... I always say that! Several groups brought me small samples. Great job guys! As far as clean up went, we had the foam monster visit. This is a result of too much soap being used! Ease up guys!
