The Ultimate Sewing Challenge

My Clothing students just competed in the Ultimate Sewing Challenge!! They were given the challenge of creating something with a fat quarter and various notions. These are some of the projects that were turned in. Several students attemped zippers, even though they had never done one before, and they didn't do too badly. Good job ladies!!

Cookie Lab

Today my FACS classes made cookies! Snickerdoodles and Chocolate Chip. Yum. Once again, my room smells great. I have already eaten about have a dozen cookies. By the end of the day, I will be sick!! But what a way to go!

Proper Measuring

My FACS students today made goop. I LOVE this mini-lab. I give them the recipe you see below. That's all. They make it. Below are some pics of the results. It is amazing how each group turns out sooooo differently. It is supposed to look like peanut butter bars, but they rarely end up looking like they should. After the mini-lab we talk about the importance of measuring accurately. They always have a good time with this lab, even if the product doesn't look appetizing.

Somewhere along the way, this student thought the directions said to cook the ingredients. Needless to say, theirs did not even come close to looking like it should. :-)

Late Posts

Here are a couple more cool projects the FACS classes made. Today in class we had our first foods lab, but I didn't get any pics because my camera battery is dead. The students made Thunder Twists (pretzels) and Thunder Juice (orange julius). My room smelled great!!

Bread Lab

The Foods class made several different breads for our carbohydrate unit. They turned out pretty good. We also had a pasta and rice lab to look at the differences in whole grain vs white foods.
